Outline of the role: Cancer Council NSW is a community funded, community focused cancer charity dedicated to working towards a cancer free future. There are things that we can all do every day to help make this happen.

Relay for Life is a fun and moving event that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council NSW’s research, prevention, information and support services. We are looking for a committee member to help make Blacktown's Relay for Life the best it can be.

When you become a member of the RFL Committee, you take on great responsibility. You will have the opportunity to assist in producing an event that can have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of people in your community and throughout the country.

Supporting the Greater Western Sydney Team and based at Parramatta, your key accountabilities will include: • Attending monthly committee meetings in the lead up to the event and more frequent committee meetings in the 2 months before the event • Working and communicating regularly with other committee members to achieve the overall targets for the event including participant registration, team registrations, fundraising, sponsorship and community support • Responding to emails and calls from other committee members and any other requests from the Committee Chair • Promoting Relay to your networks including friends, family and co-workers • Assist with recruiting teams, Survivors and Carers to the event.

Our ideal volunteer will have: • Have knowledge of the local area in which the Relay is held • Have strong written and verbal communication skills • Be able to communicate within a team environment • Have good organisational skills, including punctuality • Have knowledge of cancer and its treatment • Be willing to enter your own team into the Relay • Be committed to volunteering and working as a team member. • Commitment to Cancer Council’s vision of a cancer free future

Desirable (but not essential) • Previous events experience • Previous exposure to the not-for-profit industry or working with volunteers
