  • being from a Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background
  • being from a from a Culturally & Linguistically Diverse background
  • living with a disability or chronic health issue
  • being gender diverse or LGBTQIA+

Our Story

MIEACT is the primary local mental health and well-being education provider for workplaces, community groups and secondary schools (and now primary schools too!) across the Canberra region and surrounding area.

Our Aim

To safely share lived experience stories which provide mental health awareness and education, empowerment, and to reduce stigma while also promoting early help seeking, self-care and recovery - however that looks/works for the individual.

Opportunities

At the very core of everything we do at MIEACT are powerful lived experience stories of mental illness. Volunteer Educators share their personal stories in schools, workplaces and community groups across the Canberra region to educate, raise awareness, reduce stigma and promote early help seeking. After attending our volunteer educator (VE) training and when you feel ready to do so, YOU will get to facilitate sessions (with a co-presenter) sharing your personal story across the ACT community.

What do I need to do to become a VE ?

  1. To be positively managing your mental illness, or be the carer of a person who is living with mental illness.

  2. Hold or be willing to obtain a Working with Vulnerable People Card.

  3. Complete Educator training. This involves being able to share your unique personal experiences of mental illness or as a carer.

  4. Have flexibility to be able to volunteer during school/businesses hours.

Volunteering with us can be empowering, rewarding and might just even play a part in your own recovery!

UPCOMING TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES:

Please feel free to reach out via email or call if you wish to discuss further or have any questions. We would really love to have you on board and will do what we can to support/accommodate your involvement in the incredible work MIEACT does in the Canberra community.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
