This English as a second language student does not have the language skills nor confidence to access  the wider community. She rarely speak in English outside  the classroom. To help develop her confidence and encourage her to extend herself, we have a mentoring program whereby she and other students are paired with an English speaking tutor/mentor for one hour a week. She is over the age of 35 so  we would like her mentor to be a bit older too. No experience in teaching is necessary, just wanting to help is enough, and a good command of English. You would not be expected to actually teach her, but you can if you and the student are agreeable. The relationship with her and conversation is what is most important, as she associates mostly with her own community and engages with the mainstream community only when necessary.
