Help someone in need today! Befriend a socially isolated aged care resident in Fortitude Valley.

You can make a difference - all it takes is one hour a fortnight. Your kind donation of time goes a long way in helping our residents in care feel a sense of belonging. This program is also a great way for volunteers to reconnect with their community, and to create a new friendship at the same time.

Many elderly Australians in aged care homes are socially isolated from the community. QCCN is looking for people with big hearts to visit these senior citizens and reconnect them with the community.

Residents enjoy the social visits of our volunteers. You will be matched one-on-one with a resident who has been identified as socially isolated, or at risk of becoming so. Volunteers enjoy a coffee and chat, or perhaps a board game with their new friend, and through ongoing visits create a wonderful new friendship for someone in need.

For this particular role, we are searching for a Community Visitor for a resident who is located in an aged care facility in Fortitude Valley. We are currently searching for a volunteer to visit with him on a regular and ongoing basis for social outreach. This resident would enjoy the company of someone who has the interest (and patience!) in the world of IT. They enjoy using their iPad/laptop to play puzzles, but can become confused with the technology. Our resident is originally from England, but has spent many years in Australia. He used to be a model train enthusiast - but its been many years since he has been able to add to his collection!

Through the important work of the Community Visitor Scheme, we are hoping to bridge the gap of social isolation within aged care homes across South East QLD. Becoming a Community Visitor is a very rewarding role but is also a very important and serious commitment. It is for this reason that we can only take on volunteers who are committed to the time and the placement of the Community Visitor Scheme. We ask that all potential volunteers have the availability to visit their new friend for the next 12 months.

If you are interested in making a difference in the life of someone living in residential care, register your interest now! You will have the support of the QCCN Volunteer Program, plus the guidance and assistance of the staff at the aged care facility.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
