Southcare volunteers help provide invaluable services to the community and make the organisation the vibrant, diverse and professional organisation it is today. We recognise our volunteers and ensure they are made aware their contribution to Southcare are unequivocally appreciated.

The Community Visitor Scheme (CVS) aims to ensure that recipients’ lives are enhanced by the visits they receive or the contact they have with CVS volunteers. The anticipated quality of life improvements for the aged care recipients participating in the CVS include:

o increased self-esteem or general feeling of well-being; o diminished feelings of depression and anxiety; o increased sense of purpose o feeling cared for and/or connected to the community o reduced feelings of loneliness and isolation o a sense of connectedness to a care recipient’s individual culture o a sense of achievement through participation in a one on one relationship o a sense of connectedness to other care recipients in the residential aged care home and increased dynamics between the group of care recipients visited; and o maintenance or increase in independence.

About our Customers

Southcare is currently recruiting for a volunteer to visit a customer with the following interests:

o A Volunteer who has an interest in artistic/painting skills or o A Volunteer who can play a piano/keyboard or o A Volunteer who can teach their companion AUSLAN

Requirements

We try connect our customers with like-minded people from the community and so if you have any of the above interests or skills we would love to hear from you.

The following skills are highly desirable in a volunteer visitor:

o a genuine empathy and understanding of older people o good communication and listening skills o the ability to work independently o a commitment to developing a strong and ongoing relationship with an older person o the ability to be flexible o ability to commit to weekly visits at a day / time that is mutually suitable
