The Salvation Army Australia

Chaplains are the living expression of the Gospel and through The Salvation Army Chaplaincy Program they provide practical, emotional and spiritual support to individuals seeking assistance.  Volunteer Chaplains have a significant role in the delivery of The Salvation Army Chaplaincy program.

The Chaplaincy Program operates in diverse locations and spaces across various expressions of The Salvation Army.  With the supervision and guidance of a Chaplain Team Leader, this role is specifically designated to The Salvation Army Independent Living Support Service (SAILSS) during transition of this service to another organisation over a period of 4 - 12 months. The SAILSS program provides support to people with a disability with their daily living requirements, building capacity and providing long term accommodation. The Volunteer Chaplain will be an integral part of helping participants, residents and employees deal with change and uncertainty, minimising the impacts via:

  • Pastoral care to SAILSS residents, visiting them in their homes in various locations across Brisbane and/or Toowoomba (option to have 2 volunteer chaplains ‘job share’ the role with 1 volunteer chaplain in each location)
  • Pastoral care to SAILSS employees based in their Toowong and Toowoomba offices
  • Referring residents and employees to other support services/networks

Based at your home and/or at our SAILSS Toowong with travel to various locations in Brisbane and/or Toowoomba, this is an exciting and valuable volunteer opportunity to gain experience with one of Australia’s most trusted and loved organisations. With so many expressions and pathways within The Salvation Army, there’s opportunity to potentially continue with the Chaplaincy team beyond the set period of this Volunteer Chaplain role.
