Volunteers are an integral part of the RSPCA team. They play an active and vital role in helping to support our work to improve the welfare of animals and protect them from cruelty and neglect. Volunteering involves commitment, dedication and passion.

Role Purpose

RSPCA Victoria Op Shops are entirely volunteer operated, providing much needed funds to support RSPCA Victoria achieve our vision of “ending cruelty to all animals”.  The Op Shops also play a visible role in the wider community as the “face” of RSPCA Victoria.

The role of Op Shop Day Supervisor exists to lead and guide the team of volunteers in a particular Op Shop on the days that the Volunteer Team Leader (and Assistant Team Leader) are not rostered. This involves ensuring the Op Shop trades in line with the Operations Manual and RSPCA Victoria policies and procedures, ensuring volunteers are supported and resolving any issues that may arise within the Op Shop or referring them to the Op Shop Support Team as appropriate.

This role requires excellent people skills to lead and guide a team of volunteers, the ability to work independently and meet RSPCA Victoria expectations around reporting.  Whilst the Team Leader is responsible for the day to day operations of the Op Shop, you will be supported by the Op Shop Support Team and the wider resources of RSPCA Victoria.

Key Responsibilities

The Volunteer Op Shop Day Supervisor’s duties may include:

  • Supporting the volunteers and working with the Op Shop Support Team to identify and raise issues appropriately including customer service complaints and issues if they arise
  • Ensuring the Op Shop operates in accordance with the Op Shop Operational Manual and RSPCA Victoria policies and procedures, including Financial and Wellbeing Health & Safety
  • Ensuring financial paperwork (daily takings and banking) are completed accurately at the end of the day and by two people
  • Working with the Op Shop Support Team regarding continuous improvement, campaigns and implementing new policies and procedures. campaigns and implementing new policies and procedures
  • Delegation of daily tasks to rostered volunteers in consultation with the Team Leader/Assistant Team Leader ensuring smooth store operations (e.g. ensuring the counter is manned at all times and take appropriate breaks, etc.)
