Makers and Tinkerers - Trade and Engineering Volunteers

Solve Disability Solutions - Western Region

This role is advertised by Volunteer West, the volunteer resource centre of Australian Multicultural Community Services on behalf of Makers and Tinkerers

Are you a tinkerer, someone that likes designing and making something unique? Would you like to make a difference to someone's lives, enabling them to "Live without Limits"? Do you have any skills in the following areas? • Engineering • Trades • Sewing/textiles • Upholstery • Handyman Make or modify equipment and aids for people with a disability and older people in the community when a commercial solution is unavailable.

About you In western metropolitan areas of Melbourne, We are looking for creative people who enjoy finding a solution to a problem. You will need to enjoy helping others, be non-judgmental and patient. The role is extremely rewarding, our volunteers find the most satisfying part is seeing the smile on the client's face once they deliver the solution. The client can do something they never thought they would be able to do.

How it works • Projects are allocated to volunteers, ensuring they match up with your skills and are in your area (to reduce travel). • Our Occupational Therapist will visit the client with you to assess the problem. • Once a solution is agreed upon you can make or modify the equipment in your own time. You will custom design, make or modify the equipment. If interested there are often opportunities to work in a team on a project. • The solution then enables a client to have greater independence and improved quality of life. • Volunteers are required to write and submit a small report at the end of the project. All travel costs and materials used for projects are reimbursed, you just have to donate your time!

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
