Volunteer Firefighters

Augusta VFRS
Logo for Augusta VFRS

There are no salaried fire fighters in our local area; everything depends upon volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

There are a range of duties that we'll expect you to carry out. These include:

  • Bush firefighting,
  • Structural firefighting,
  • Road crash rescue,
  • Hazardous material incidents
  • Station duties and
  • Vehicle checks

You will need to be able to:

  • follow instructions;
  • respond to incidents;
  • attend training;
  • use the brigade’s equipment and vehicles in a safe manner;
  • carry out your duties in a safe and professional manner;
  • demonstrate a commitment to DFES's vision, mission and values;
  • work effectively with other agencies; and
  • maintain a reasonable level of physical fitness

Key Tasks

You don’t have to be available 24/7 but we pride ourselves on a quick response at all hours so the more hours you can be available, the better.  But if you don’t want to be a full active member we also welcome reserve and support members – there’s always something to do! We meet every Tuesday at the Brigade Station in Allnut Terrace for training, drills and equipment checks (and sometimes external activities such as small burn-offs). Join us from about 5:30 pm. Meetings usually close by 7:00 to 7:30 pm.

  • Support members.  Could you help a few hours each month with equipment and brigade building care and maintenance, or administration paperwork, or assist with community engagement activities, or perhaps provide back-up and support during incidents?  Talk to us about what you’d like to do.  Every bit helps.  We need you!
  • Reserve members.  Are you a past member of Augusta’s or another brigade?  Or just don't have time for full active membership? Maybe you are not able to attend training every Tuesday, but with some basic or refresher training could help in a major incident.  We need you!
  • Active members.  We offer training in skills that are beyond the ordinary, plus social interaction in a great team atmosphere, and respect and recognition in the community.  If you want to “make a difference”, maybe now is the time.  We need you!

Benefits

The high quality of the training on offer (everything from basic fire-fighting, off-road driving, to rescue) is challenging and builds a set of skills that provide a fresh change from your day-to-day routine.  Also there’s a great team spirit amongst our group and a sense of genuine purpose.  We are rewarded with tremendous respect and support in the community, which can be very humbling at times.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
