The overall objective of volunteer involvement is to improve confidence and help family members to feel better connected to their community.Families referred to the volunteer service are usually quite vulnerable and isolated. Volunteers assist to implement specific goals which have been identified by the referring worker as important to improve the well-being of the family. Their role helps strengthen the family by providing resources and social support ,focusing and promoting their individual strengths and skills and by encouraging and facilitating community participation. The tasks are varied and matched according to the interests and skills of the individual volunteer. Some of the areas where volunteers are currently utilized include transporting clients to medical & educational appointments; mentoring and assisting young people to develop life skills & enhance their natural talents; providing in-home emotional & practical support to parents who often are very socially isolated; and assisting with the Community Inclusion group programs which involves accompanying children to community- based activities and providing individual support to maximise their participation and enjoyment of these activities.
