Newlands & East Coburg Neighbourhood Houses bring people together to connect, learn and contribute in their local community through social, educational, recreational and support activities, using a unique community development approach.

We are looking for volunteers to support one of our most loved programs: SENSORY PLAY. Volunteers will give assistance to a highly experienced teacher and will get a chance to learn how to run sensory play activities.

Volunteers at Newlands Neighbourhood House (20 Murray Road, Coburg North, VIC). You will volunteer in a friendly and supportive environment for about 2.5 hours a week.

Responsibilities

• Assist with setting up toys and equipment and packing it away in the storeroom and shed.

• Clean up the room and equipment.

• Communicate with parents if required re. their children's needs.

Knowledge and Skills

• No qualifications or experience needed

• Patience and good humour.

• Respect and empathy for people from diverse backgrounds.

• A non-judgmental attitude.

• Ability to work independently.

• Knowledge of child safety

OHS

• Wash hands before and after the class to stop the spread of germs to/from the children.

• Do not bring hot drinks into the room.

• Use correct posture when lifting toys and equipment. If not able to lift safely, please advise your supervisor and do not lift.

• Supervise children to help them play safely, e.g. avoid them falling off concrete steps (outside), knocking over toddlers, stepping on babies.

• If you see a hazard, please remove it and/or tell staff.
