Volunteering as the Committee Chairperson is a great opportunity for someone with the leaderships skills and personal drive required to lead a committee of volunteers to organise this unique 24 hour fundraising event that makes a difference in the fight against cancer. The Chairperson also works closely with the support of the Cancer Council WA Fundraising Coordinator, and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the event.

This one of a kind, hands on volunteer role is a perfect opportunity to give back to your local community and see first-hand the difference your contribution makes.

Key tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Be present over the weekend of the Relay For Life event on 19th and 20th October 2019
  • Work with Cancer Council WA Fundraising Coordinator to grow the event, as well as develop and manage the event budget
  • Recruit, coach and motivate Committee members
  • Allocate tasks and provide direction and guidance to Committee members
  • Act as a liaison between Cancer Council WA and the Committee, keeping them up-to-date and informed at all times
  • Plan and chair all Committee meetings
  • Create and maintain relationships with local businesses and Relay For Life suppliers (e.g. City of Greater Geraldton, Brigades Football club)
  • Be comfortable with opening and closing the event (speaking in front of a crowd of 200-300 people)
  • Promote all areas of Relay For Life, in particular, recruitment of new teams
