The Veterinary Council of Australia (VNCA) is seeking to recruit a consumer representative for a position on its newly-formed Australian Veterinary Nurse and Technician (AVNAT) Regulatory Council.

The AVNAT Regulatory Council operates under Terms of Reference that identify the purpose, structure, authority and reporting of the activities of the Council.

The AVNAT Regulatory Council oversees the management of the AVNAT Registration Scheme, ensuring applications and renewals are managed in line with agreed policies and procedures, determining a resolution for individuals who fail to demonstrate compliance with policies, reviewing and approving applications for AVNAT continuing professional development points and making recommendations to the VNCA Board in relation to existing standards based on industry and professional benchmarking.

The consumer representative will be required to provide a consumer voice to matters that are brought to the Council for discussion. These meetings may require pre-reading and preparation.

We are seeking a person with the following characteristics:

• Demonstrated experience as a consumer of veterinary services
• Demonstrated ability to represent a consumer perspective in Council deliberations
• Ability and willingness to participate in meetings with Council members
• Sound interpersonal and communication skills
• The ability to access websites, to respond to email communications, and to take part in teleconferences

Meeting commitment required for this role: quarterly, generally by teleconference though at least annually in-person. Duration one to two hours.
