Wesley Mission Queensland
Logo for Wesley Mission Queensland

As part of the federally funded Community Visitors Scheme, we are looking for friendly people who have an hour each week or fortnight to spend visiting isolated or lonely individuals living in an aged care facility. Connections can also occur via phone, online (skype, etc.), or via mail sending letters or cards. Wesley Mission Queensland asks for a commitment to this role for a minimum of six months.

To be a Community Visitor you must have:

  • A genuine interest in working with older people
  • Have good communication and listening skills
  • Have empathy for lonely, socially isolated people
  • Be able to be in contact regularly on an ongoing basis

Volunteers are supported in their role by a designated Community Visitors Scheme Coordinator who will match them with a designated “friend”. The visits are relaxed and social in nature, where you might chat together, reminisce, play card games, have a coffee in one of the onsite cafes or go for a walk.

Being a Community Visitor is a wonderful opportunity to improve the quality of life of older people, develop a personal connection, and make new friends while gaining new skills and giving back to your community.

Community Visitor opportunities are currently available in Bray Park, Chermside, Geebung, Corinda and Sinnamon Park.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
