INTRODUCTION

Mood Active's Vision: To see more Australians using exercise to improve their mental health.

Mood Active's Mission: To run exercise programs that empower people to better manage their mental health, and to get more General Practitioners & Psychologists prescribing exercise as treatment for depression/anxiety.

We are a very small but successful and growing charity that is currently entirely run by a friendly crew of volunteers. We have a management committee that oversees the work of the organisation and sets and monitors its strategic plan. We are currently looking to increase the size of the management committee and bring in different skills.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Vision and Leadership

  • To be committed to the vision, mission and values of the organisation.
  • To provide strategic direction, including agreeing and monitoring strategic plans.
  • To keep informed of the activities of the organisation and the wider issues that affect its work.
  • To provide professional input.
  • To contribute to fundraising and business development strategies, including improving the organisation’s links with providers and stakeholders in the mental health sphere.

Accountability & Oversight

  • To ensure the work of the organisation is monitored and evaluated.
  • To ensure the organisation keeps to the law and complies with all relevant guidance and stakeholder expectations.
  • To ensure that risks to the organisation, staff, volunteers and service users are at an acceptable level and are effectively managed.
  • To be accountable to membership, funders and other stakeholders.
  • To understand the financial position of the organisation and ensure the organisation's finances are properly managed.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Understanding of and commitment to the organisation’s mission & values.
  • Professional qualifications and a broad and well established corporate network.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Impartiality and fairness.
  • At least a basic understanding of standard business management activities such as: strategic planning; goal-setting; financial management; and operational oversight.

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED

Committee meetings are held 6 weekly, in the evening for 1-2 hours . In addition, we have occasional strategic planning-type sessions, once or twice a year (usually on a weekend). Some preparatory work would be needed in advance, in each case. Put together, this makes up the core, minimum time commitment required for a committee member.

Any time commitment that is possible beyond this would be greatly appreciated. This is dependent on the skills, interests and availability of the committee member. One area that would be of particular help to us is assistance with business development work - opening doors to potential funding partners or sponsors.
