Community Visitor Volunteer - Central Coast
Australian Red Cross- Ongoing
- Minimum of an hour once a week
The program
Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) volunteers make a regular social visit and provide companionship and friendship to socially isolated people living in their own home or residential aged care.
The opportunity
The volunteer must have a genuine interest in working with elderly people; have good communication and listening skills, and have empathy for older, socially isolated people. Volunteers are matched one-on-one with a participant. The visits are relaxed and social in nature, where you might chat together, reminisce, play card games or go out for a coffee or walk.Other options at residential aged care facilities include group engagement with a number of participants.
The impact
You will have the opportunity to improve the quality of life of someone who would otherwise be socially isolated. You can develop a personal connection and make new friends.
You will gain new skills whilst giving back to your community.
