The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Balwyn Evergreen Centre.

Balwyn Evergreen Centre is a provider of aged care services committed to active ageing and providing older people with high quality programmes in a friendly, supportive, social environment.  This community based organisation has vacancies for two Board members. Board meetings are held monthly on the third Wednesday of the month from 5.30-7.30pm.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The Board is the legal authority for ensuring the strategic direction and effective management of the organisation.  The Board ensures that the Centre is managed for the benefit of all who access the services, within the Constitution and the laws of the State of Victoria and the Commonwealth of Australia. Board members of BEC are expected to have

  • commitment to work for the greater good of BEC
  • knowledge, expertise and influence relevant to the affairs of BEC
  • ability to assist the organisation to meet its strategic goals and objectives

Skills and Experience:

Skills, knowledge or experience that may be useful include:

  • access, provision and delivery of aged care services
  • background in healthcare for older recipients, community support and social services
  • accounting and finances
  • local networking
  • project and people management
  • marketing and fundraising
  • governance
  • strategic & business planning
  • risk management
  • public relations and advocacy
  • digital / information technology

Training and Induction:

Chair will arrange for a prospective director to meet with existing Board members. Meeting with the CEO for an operational familiarization. Prior to attendance at their first Board meeting, new Board members will be given a copy of the Constitution and other relevant governance documentation, meeting papers, an organisation chart, current year meeting schedule and the annual agenda.
