A not-for-profit Organisation that runs creative writing and storytelling workshops for marginalised young people, is seeking Volunteer Creative Writing Tutors.

About The Role:

Volunteers work with one or two students, alongside expert storytellers, helping them to write the most exciting stories of their lives. The focus is on students from marginalised backgrounds, Indigenous students, students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, students from foster homes, students from difficult family circumstances, students who are very shy or very loud, students who may be hyperactive or disengaged. With your assistance, these young people are empowered to create stories of all kinds and develop the skills and confidence to find their voices and shape their futures.

The workshops cover a wide range of areas, but all focus on creative writing. You may be working on narrative fiction, poetry, performance script, a radio podcast, short film, memoir, letters, comic strips, or any number of other projects. All Volunteers are trained and well equipped in this innovative teaching model.

About You:

As the students come from a wealth of life experiences and backgrounds, the aim is to treat every one of them with respect, kindness and understanding. The workshops run for around 6-9 weeks of the school term and during school hours. Volunteers are asked to commit for one-two hours per week for the full term, ensuring continuity of care for the student/s, as you will be working with the same pupil/s each week and on the same project. No previous experience is necessary, just a love of writing and a desire to give back to the community.

Volunteer Tutors will need a Working With Children Check Clearance and need to be over 15 years of age. You will be asked to attend an interview lasting fifteen minutes and a five hour orientation session, after which you’ll be eligible to volunteer.

If have some time to give, patience to encourage and a genuine interest in helping a young person succeed, we would love to hear from you!

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
