Share your language (English) and companionship during fortnightly visits with an isolated elderly man living in his own home in Williamstown North.

An extremely patient, mature and caring volunteer fluent in English is requested for this role. He has comprehension difficulties due to a past stroke. He can only understand about 30% of what someone is saying if it is over the phone and 50% in person.

He would prefer monthly in person visits and the opportunity to Skype other times. He is educated and would like someone to have an intelligent conversation with. He likes animals, is vegetarian, enjoys foreign films, computers, cooking, reading and the labour political party. He would prefer someone with similar interests to visit him.

Visits may be spent talking or sharing in a simple leisure activity together. Your regular visits can make a real and positive difference in the life of this resident - reducing social isolation and improving well-being.

We ask volunteers to commit to weekly visits for at least 12 months, however this is an ongoing role & we hope to support your friendship for as long as possible.

Volunteers receive training, orientation, ongoing support, travel reimbursement and quarterly invitations to meetings together with other visiting volunteers.
