Volunteer Social Support Volunteer OC
The Neighbourhood CentrePurpose of the Position
To assist frail older people in their homes to feel socially included through visits on a regular basis to meet their need for company, social contact and to participate in community life.
Provide one-on-one support to an older person at least once a fortnight in their home or on scheduled outings· Demonstrate friendly visiting by having supportive and positive conversations· Engage in wellness and re-ablement activities with an older person eg letter writing, using technology and reading, playing a board game, assisting with shopping and outings or having a cup of tea.
Other Responsibilities·
To respect clients privacy and confidentiality (i.e.matters relating to your client must not be discussed with anyone other than the Co-ordinator)· To respect and encourage the clients differing needs for independence· To bring to the attention of the Co-ordinator any client concerns or changes to health that may need attention · Comply with Orange City Council’s WHS regulations and volunteer policy
Skills and Personal Qualifications·
Well-developed communication, interpersonal and listening skills· Passionate about improving the wellbeing of older people· Ability to work effectively with a team· Ability to comply with the Memorandum of Understanding· A current Drivers Licence and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance is desirable, but not essential
