Join the Bribie Island Butterfly House Family!

If you like working with nature you are going to love the Bribie Island Butterfly House! In the 18 months since we opened on beautiful Bribie Island, over 25,000 people have enjoyed visiting our beautiful butterflies and learning about the amazing butterfly cycle and ‘metamorphosis’!

Learn about the amazing Butterfly Life Cycle.

‘Learn as you work’ caring for the hungry caterpillars.

Assist in the collection of butterfly eggs.

Help hang chrysalises for the new butterflies to emerge safely.

Clean and sterilise equipment to prevent disease outbreaks.

Release new-born butterflies into the Butterfly House.

No experience necessary. All training is provided.

Shifts required are two x 3.5hrs per week.

A reasonable degree of fitness is needed to be on your feet. Interesting work!

We’ve hosted everyone from babes in prams to our wheelie-walker senior citizens, from day care centres, vacation care and school groups, to families of the incurably ill and folk with disabilities, plus coach loads of members from clubs such as Probus, Rotary, craft groups, scouts, retirement villages, church groups, deaf folk, camera clubs and so many more.

It appears that everyone loves butterflies! They certainly are a wonderful creation. Ourattractive gardens, soft music and water features add to the ambience.

The bonus is that 100% of our surplus goes to help less fortunate people, as we are 100% run by volunteers. Come along and you can join the Bribie Island Butterfly House family. We hope to see you soon!

What is it like working at the Bribie Island Butterfly House?

We believe that Many hands make light work! Therefore we try to have multiple workers for each position plus extras for backup. We have quite a range of activities! There is something to suit just about everybody!

If you like working outdoors you can help us by cultivating butterfly plants in the Butterfly House and in the garden. Or you can contribute by maintaining our mechanical operations. We also need Butterfly Food Collectors, Social Media practitioners and ‘Flight Attendants’, who conduct our tours of the Butterfly House! Working inside we have over 15 Laboratory Technicians and we still need five more! We also need a Cleaner and Nursery Propagation Gardener.

Working from home we need a Facebook Content Contributor, Website Support and Newsletter Coordinator!

What will you get working at the Bribie Island Butterfly House?

Most of our positions do not require previous experience because we provide training in how to handle butterflies and their requirements.

We believe volunteers need: • Someone to report to who knows the job • People to work with • People to ask for help • Clear guidelines for your scope of work and decisions • Agreed upon goals to achieve • Recognition!
