    Any parent who has experienced, or supported their partner experiencing, perinatal mental illness can become a Community Champion. "Perinatal" includes anything during pregnancy and from birth until your baby is 1 year old. Perinatal mental illness can include perinatal anxiety and depression, postnatal psychosis, perinatal OCD and a range of other experiences.

Anyone that has recovered from a personal experience of perinatal mental illness with a passion to raise awareness can apply to be a Community Champion. This means that every Community Champion has either:

  • experienced perinatal anxiety and/or depression or postnatal psychosis;
  • or has supported a partner through their experiences.

What can you do as a PANDA Community Champion?

Community Champions conduct activities online and in their local communities to help raise awareness of perinatal mental illness, promote PANDA's services and raise vital funds for PANDA.

There are a number of different activities you can choose to get involved with to suit your personal interests, skills and availability, including:

  • sharing your story on our website or via the media
  • hosting awareness/fundraising events
  • distributing PANDA resources
  • getting involved with research and development.

How does the program work?

The Community Champion volunteer program is designed to be flexible, so that you can get involved as and when time permits. We know that our Champions have busy lives, balancing family with other commitments that can include work, study and other family and caring commitments.

All you need to get involved is the will to help and being ready in your recovery, along with a reliable internet connection!

How to apply

Your wellbeing is the most important thing, so please think about where you are in your recovery journey before applying. PANDA Community Champions have to be recovered to get involved in raising awareness, especially when sharing their personal story.

If this looks like the opportunity for you, express your interest here and you will be sent a link to a role profile for Community Champions and our application form. From there we'll review your application and you may be invited for a phone or video interview to discuss the program and explore your interests and readiness in your recovery in more depth.

We look forward to hearing from you!
