Peaceful Pathways Facilitation Volunteer - Hobart and Mowbray

  • Time frame: 3 year project
  • Time involved: Flexible. Workshops are 18-20 hours each and may be done over a weekend, one evening per week over a month, etc based on the needs of your group.

The Program Red Cross supports migrants made vulnerable through their experiences of migration. Peaceful Pathways was piloted in order to build community capacity to more fully understand the personal and collective effects of trauma and daily settlement/life challenges. The program focuses on practicing more successful and sustainable responses in a supportive and affirming environment. Peaceful Pathways uses the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) model, with participants engaging voluntarily in three stages of learning - Basic, Advanced and Teach for Facilitation workshops.

The opportunity This role will suit a variety of people. Expressions of interest are sought from people who are local Tasmanians committed to the successful settlement and healing of people who have survived war, persecution, torture and/or other forms of violence. This role demands an ongoing, deep commitment to the process to be a peace leader in the Tasmanian community and model successful social cohesion. Roles are available in both the Hobart and Launceston area.

The impact Peaceful Pathways will leave sustainable skills for handling conflict in various areas of the Tasmanian community and reduce the impacts of trauma, including reduced domestic and family violence, reduced suffering of mental illness or strain and improved social cohesion for particpants from refugee background. The impact on you as a volunteer is that you will be fully immersed and guided through an effectively proven conflict resolution process and have skills to manage your own conflicts well. You will be linked to and be supported by the AVP Australia network and will have other opportunities to use the process around the world, should you wish to do so in future. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.
