You will be required to be accredited with a dog and volunteer in your local school for one school term before becoming a coordinator. This period will be a time where you will be a ‘normal’ volunteer and you will not undertake any coordinating tasks, thereby gaining the knowledge, skill and insights of a volunteer.
In addition, good email and internet skills are required.
* May be arranged via the Organisation. Details to be provided on expression of interest.
Story Dogs is a unique reading support program for primary school children. It is a fast growing progressive organisation that is seeking new coordinators to support the volunteer dog teams delivering the program in local schools.
In your local area you will help interested people to become Story Dogs volunteers. This will involve working with an experienced dog trainer (sourced by Story Dogs) who will assess the suitability of the dog and volunteer. You will then guide the new volunteers through a training video and manual to prepare them for helping children in a school. You will also contact the primary schools and link the volunteers up with a school that suits them. Story Dogs will provide training and assistance so you are able to undertake these tasks. You are able to work from home with no set times.
You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
