Queensland Maritime Museum is planning to reopen in late July 2020 under a COVID-Safe process. We are now looking for enthusiastic people to help take the museum forward in what is expected to be a staged opening process. In our first stage we expect to open on weekends only, moving to include weekdays as staffing and demand increases in the later stages. These positions will provide an excellent opportunity to gain experience in operating in a COVID-Safe environment. As we are living in an everchanging environment, these front desk volunteers will also gain experience working in a team, in flexible and changing work environment. Training will be provided. The front desk will have a prime responsibility to ensure visitors enter and visit the Museum in a COVID-Safe manner. The store front is the welcoming face of the QMMA, and requires a friendly attitude, and ability to serve both international and Australian visitors. A second language in addition to English is an added benefit. To be eligible for this position, you should be able to volunteer at least one full shift a week. Candidates who are able to work weekends are urgently needed. However please advise us if you are able to work on weekdays as we will be able to accommodate as we move to weekday opening. At this stage we are planning to have two shifts per day giving the volunteers the option of working either half or full days. We expect the Museum to be open to the public from 09:30 to 15:00 with volunteers being required from 09:00 to 12:30 first shift and 12:00 to 16:30 second shift. Role Description: The Front of house staff are centered on visitor services at the reception and souvenir shop area. The Front of house must represent the Museum, as they are the first point of contact with visitors. General Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide visitors with a welcoming reception, orientation and information; provide enthusiastic and efficient customer service by being knowledgeable on the Museum • Communicate Museum rules gently and professionally • Address visitor’s inquiries, comments and complaints • General reception duties such as answering phones, maintaining records or taking bookings • Issuing visitor or contractor badges • Till management, Processing sales returns exchanges and entry ticket sales • Assisting with opening and closing the building and exhibits; • Assist in keeping public areas tidy • Other administrative duties as assigned (mailings, data entry and filing) Report to the Duty Manager and/or Operational Manager.
