As a HammondCare Biography Writing Volunteer, your listening and writing skills will allow end-of-life patients to share and record their stories, memories, and messages for loved ones. These biographies are then printed and presented to the client and/or client’s family.

Ideally, you'll have the following skills

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word
• 50 words per minute typing skills
• Ability to work independently and problem solve
• Willingness to learn new technology and software. You will be using a Dictaphone and a transcription software program to assist your typing.
• Use virtual online meeting tools such as Zoom, Teams or Skype

This opportunity does require a long term commitment of 12 months or longer and up-to 5 hours per week. The transcription and editing process can occur in the evenings, however the weekly one hour interviews will occur between Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. The interviews may take place in the patient's home or due to Covid restrictions, may be held online.

Due to the time commitment, we are seeking to match patients with volunteers who currently live in the North Shore area eg Hornsby, Turramurra, Wahroonga, Killara, St Ives, Pymble, Thornleigh, Cherrybrook

Successful applicants will be required to complete a national police check which HammondCare will organise and pay for. As a Health volunteer, you'll also be required to meet the immunisation requirements, including Hep B, flu and a serology blood test. Our Volunteer Coordinator will explain the details with you.
