YES (Youth Engaging Successfully) Youth Program Mentor for teenagers

Assist to set up and pack down resources for YES Program (Youth Engaging Successfully). YES is a friendship group program for teenagers with autism spectrum conditions in (school) Years 8 - 10. SWAN YES Program is facilitated by a psychologist with the support of volunteer mentors. Each group has a maximum capacity of 12 teens. Participants are allocated to a group depending on their individual interests, needs and age.
Sessions are 2 hours long and held fortnightly on Saturday afternoons. Support youth with autism and related developmental disabilities to interact and engage with each other, under supervision of psychologist facilitator.

OBJECTIVES of YES program: ✓To provide a relaxed, safe and supportive environment where participants can learn and practice social, communication and life skills.

✓To respectfully engage participants in social, friendship and life skills enabling them to contribute in a confident, positive manner to the community.

✓To build participants’ self-esteem, confidence and protective mental health.

✓To acknowledge and build on the strengths, abilities and interests of participants.

✓Support participants to successfully resolve conflicts and disagreements.

✓To build resilience, independence and initiative of group participants.
