An organisation providing accommodation and support services to women and children who have experienced domestic/family violence requires volunteers in a number of roles. The roles available include drivers, volunteer companions, fundraisers/event assistance, language assistants, education helpers, domestic helpers and office cleaners. Direct support roles involve helping clients in gaining the confidence to live independently. Depending on the role, volunteers need to be emotionally mature, empathetic, supportive and willing to listen. Roles involving contact with children require someone who has experience working with traumatised children/children with special needs OR one with a therapeutic background. As a minimum someone experienced working with primary school age children. First Aid training will be provided to volunteers who may be working off site with clients. Volunteer buddy offered if required. The roles are Centrelink approved for eligible participants. Short term roles available. Volunteers with limited English are welcome to apply. Police and Working With Chldren Checks required. The application process includes an interview and reference checks.
