To become a Ready Reading volunteer you will undergo training in the support process you will use with young readers. The training will be delivered by experienced staff from the Department of Education and Volunteering Queensland, and you will be guided and supported through your learning.

We ask that you commit to regular sessions so that the full benefits of the program can be realised.

Key responsibilities

Work with individual children, under the direction of the class teacher to provide reading support to early readers to assist them in becoming confident and independent in their reading. This will include but is not limited to:

literacy and the five essential components for learning to read engaging children in the reading process and modelling the art of reading supporting a child before, during and after they read, through questioning on the illustrations, main ideas in the book, characters, settings and meaning in the story using reading support strategies to develop independent reading skills.

Ready Reading volunteers will work in primary schools across the State. The program will be rolled out in three stages. It will begin in Term 3, 2018 in Metro Brisbane and North Queensland and in Term 4, 2018 in South East Queensland and Darling Downs. The program will be rolled out for the rest of Queensland in early 2019.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
