Logo for Mood Active Association

Established in 2013, Mood Active is a small, not for profit association based in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. We provide low cost group exercise programs for people diagnosed with depression and anxiety to help them get back on their feet and also manage their mood longer term.

Participants are typically referred to us by GP’s, psychologists and community organisations and to date, feedback has been very positive.

Mood Active is run by a friendly, mostly volunteer team, overseen by a management committee. Our annual budget for next year will be between $150,000 - $200,000.

We are expanding services, creating the need for a volunteer Head of Finance for approximately 2-3 hours per week, worked flexibly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of Mood Active’s financial performance
  • Supervision of and support to the volunteer Finance Officer - who leads on all supplier payments, bookkeeping, payroll and other transactional finance matters.
  • Preparation and presentation of financial forecasts, annual/half-yearly budgets and longer-term financial plans.
  • Support for costing of grant applications and tender bids.
  • Oversight of Mood Active’s compliance with payroll, taxation and other financial reporting requirements.
  • Financial and related advice to the GM, Management Committee and other key staff and volunteers.
  • Development and improvement of policies and processes.
  • Providing backup for the Finance Officer, when unavailable.

Required skills and experience:

  • Ability to work autonomously and proactively – including planning and organising your own work, and setting tasks and deadlines for others
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting
  • Experience in financial management, budgeting and planning
  • Experience of overseeing and managing staff
  • Ability to communicate finance concepts to non-finance staff in a way that is clear and actionable.
  • Own computer, phone and internet
  • A desire to help people to improve their mental health

In the main, hours can be worked flexibly and from home. Occasional attendance at committee meetings (held weekday evenings or on weekends) will be beneficial. All volunteers are invited to meet up at least quarterly for business planning and/or social events. You’ll also be welcome to attend our fundraising events and our exercise classes.

As this is a key role for Mood Active, we would ask applicants to commit to working with us for at least 18 months, where possible.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
