Volunteer Position Description – TREASURER

Organisation: Wolston and Centenary Catchments Inc. (WACC)

Committee member or general member: Committee member

Location: The role can mostly be done at home via phone and email. Attendance at the Monthly Committee Meeting is required (held at Pooh Corner Environment Centre, 100 Wolston Rd, Wacol).

Commitment Expected: To prepare monthly financial report for the Monthly General Meeting and liaise with our auditor the annual financial statement. Average of 3hrs/week.

Short-term/One off project/Episodic/On-going Role: Ongoing (Committee members voted annually, each September)

Role Description: The Treasurer plays an integral and legal role in the functioning of WACC. The Treasurer manages WACC’s finances on behalf of the Committee, including financial reporting and paying/issuing invoices and paying reimbursements to volunteers. Additionally, briefing Project Managers to ensure they adhere to the financial requirements of grant monies are adhered to. The Treasurer reports monthly to the Management committee.

Purpose of the position: The purpose of the role is to ensure that WACC’s finances are in order so that the group can efficiently and smoothly work towards achieving its stated aims and objectives (see below) and to fulfil its statutory requirements as an incorporated association (as per the Associations Incorporations Act, Qld, 1981).

Principal duties & responsibilities • Manage WACC bank accounts; • Maintain an up to date record of all money transactions (Excel spreadsheets); • Pay incoming invoices; and issue invoices and receipts; • Assist with acquittal reports for grants and other funds; • Submit the financial records for annual review by the accountant designated by the Annual General Meeting, between 31 July and 1 September (so that the organisation’s financial statement is ready for presentation at the AGM); • Liaise with the Secretary to maintain a record of all financial documents relating to incorporation, GST, permits and licenses;
• Provide a financial report at each Committee Meeting & at the Annual General Meeting (in accordance with the requirements of the Associations Incorporations Act, Qld, 1981); • All WACC Volunteers have the rights and responsibilities of volunteers as outlined by Volunteering Qld. Suitable experience; attributes and skills:
• Basic bookkeeping skills (or a willingness to learn); • Experience with MYOB/ Microsoft Excel (or a willingness to learn); • Experience in writing grant acquittals (or a willingness to learn) & financial reports; • Well organised; • Sound written & verbal communication skills; • Interest in the natural environment; • Trustworthy, reliable, and autonomous.
