Peer Educator- Respect, Protect, Connect Program
South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault & Family Violence (SECASA)"Respect Protect Connect" is a secondary school-based peer education program run in same-sex workshops. The young men’s workshops provide education around topics such as: anti-violence strategies, positive relationships, gender stereotyping, homophobia, and sexual assault/consent issues. The young women's workshops provide education around healthy and unhealthy relationships, sexual harassment, sexual assault and consent.
Feeling Safe Together is a protective behaviours program run in kinder and primary schools in the south eastern suburbs of Victoria. The workshops focuses on body safety, respectful relationship and a whole school approach to creating safe communities free from sexual abuse.
This is a voluntary position, however there is reimbursement of 'out-of-pocket expenses' for conducting workshops of $90 per full day.
Peer educators will receive two full days of training and an observation period prior to commencement.
Selection Criteria: Applicants will need good verbal communication skills, strong spoken English, and some background knowledge of the issues covered in the program. They also will be required to have a Working With Children and police check, and will need at least one day a week (not including weekends) available during school term to conduct workshops. Workshops are conducted primarily in the South-Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, so applicants would need to either live in or have easy access to that area.
