Engineers Without Borders Victoria Chapter The Victoria Chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is committed to EWB’s mission to provide everyone with the engineering knowledge and resources required to live a life of opportunity free from poverty.

We provide meaningful volunteering opportunities and coordinate activities on a regional scale for university students, professionals and employees of our corporate partners. We work directly with communities in Victoria and support EWB’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Program and International Programs. We also provide EWB members with opportunities to grow and learn about working with communities, development practice and leadership.

Fundraising & Events Team The Fundraising and Events (F&E) Team of the Victoria Region helps to create and develop creative opportunities for skills, experience and knowledge sharing and fundraising. The team is responsibility for regional activities, cultivating networks and encouraging collaboration.

The F&E team also supports EWB’s volunteers in a general sense, ensuring that they have opportunities to learn so they feel comfortable in their volunteering activities.

We are looking for volunteers to be a part of the F&E Team. This position requires someone who is enthusiastic with planning and implementing successful events and fundraising campaigns for Engineers Without Borders. The F&E Team work with other EWB volunteers to bring the region’s calendar of fundraising and social events to life. Events have one of three purposes:

  1. Raise funds for EWB Vic Region,
  2. Socialise and/or to educate people about community development,
  3. Promoting an EWB or other humanitarian engineering related topic.

Role Description EWB Victoria is looking for motivated, proactive and experienced individuals to join the F&E Team. This role will entail the following: • Develop fundraising campaigns and contribute to its implementation, monitoring and evaluation; • Generate new ideas and funding opportunities, while researching for various fundraising platforms; • Assist with updating the database for fundraising/raffle donation platforms; • Identify relevant marketing channels for events; • Identify events that highlight the work that Engineers Without Borders do to the wider community. • Source a list of places where we could potential raise money – eg Bunnings, Woolworths, Masters… • Assist with grant writing • Assist with communications – i.e telephone calls and emails

Responsibilities • Engage with the F&E Coordinator, and the rest of the Vic Region Committee to understand events and initiatives by other committee members and find the gaps; • Ensure there are enough funds in the Vic Region account; • Create and organise events and initiatives from concept development to evaluation; • Attend monthly F&E meetings; • Identify events and opportunities and engage in suitable EWB initiatives to grow the Hub.

Skills required • An understanding of EWB’s underlying vision, objectives and rationale; • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with ability to synthesis information; • Ability to work autonomously and results driven; • Strong planning and organisational skills; • Ability to lead, mentor and develop individuals in event management; • Time management.

Desirable • Experience managing or leading volunteer teams; • Experience with a previous Not For Profit; • Marketing skills / knowledge; • Experience with EWB processes, systems, approaches and people • Relevant experience in event coordination, marketing, media, fundraising, web campaigns etc.
