Community Palliative Care Volunteer (Western Sydney, NSW)

We are seeking Volunteers to provide support and companionship for both patients who have a life limiting illness and their carers with our Community Palliative Care Service located in Western Sydney, NSW.

The role of the Volunteer in the home setting may vary depending on the client's needs but may include companionship, social support, simple meal preparation. The Volunteer may also provide respite so that a carer can attend chores, take a break for a couple of hours and perhaps venture out.

Volunteers with Silver Chain Community Palliative Care Service are valued members of our team who strive for excellence and want to make a difference in a person's life and to their community.

You would be a caring person with warmth, compassion, integrity and be a great listener. You would have the ability to maintain confidentiality and keep boundaries. As a Volunteer with Silver Chain you would have access to support from several resources giving you the opportunity to debrief on a regular or as needed basis.

To become a Volunteer with the Silver Chain Community Palliative Care Service you will be offered and required to complete the initial training program consisting of an induction day, a nurse buddy day and four days of training. You will have further opportunities to attend ongoing meetings and education sessions with other volunteers at the base in Seven Hills, NSW throughout the year.
