The Latrobe Wildlife Sanctuary was created in 1967 to restore and manage indigenous flora and fauna and provide opportunities for learning about these through engaging with the community. It has over 30 hectares of woodlands and grasslands and is distinguished by many native plants, trees, animals, historical sites and more.

The Sanctuary offers valuable habitat in an otherwise suburban desert and is linked to other large tracts of remnant grassy woodland such as Gresswell Forest and Gresswell Hill Nature Conservation Reserves by the revegetated Gresswell Habitat Link. These properties all play a vital role in preserving the biodiversity and health of this region.

Conservation Volunteers welcomes people with a love of the outdoors and interest in the environment to get involved. Its volunteers include students, professionals, international visitors, retirees, in fact almost anybody can get involved. You don't need any prior skills or experience, just a reasonable level of health and fitness.

Discover your local environment and make a difference to our natural habitat by joining us at the Sanctuary, for just a single occasion if you wish. Or you can volunteer at the Sanctuary many times and enjoy seeing how your work is making a difference.

You can travel directly to the Sanctuary when you volunteer, unlike many other Conservation Volunteers Australia projects to which you travel by bus from West Melbourne.

If you send an expression of interest using the green button below, Conservation Volunteer will email you to redirect you to their website to make a booking there and will inform you of volunteering opportunities at the Sanctuary. .
