Customer Service Team Members for Newport Railway Museum

Australian Railway Historical Society (Victorian Division)

The Newport Railway Museum contains the biggest collection of railway exhibits on permanent display to the public in Victoria, spanning 150 years of history. Our visitor numbers are increasing and we want to expand our opening hours, so we're looking for new members of our customer service team. You don't need any prior knowledge of railways, we're far more interested your friendly and outgoing personality and ability to make our visitors feel welcome.

We have multiple roles available, including

  • front counter staff to sell tickets to visitors as they arrive, answer phone enquiries, and provide general assistance to visitors
  • shop staff to sell our range of books, DVDs, and souvenirs, and handle bookings for our buffet car for children's birthdays
  • roving museum guides to wander the museum grounds, assist with basic directions, and provide general supervision

You will be supported by experienced museum staff who will be ready to assist any visitors with specific questions about the museum exhibits, and in time you may find you pick up enough information to answer many of those questions yourself. Bear in mind that most visitors to the museum are young families with children, and most queries to our volunteers are fairly general in nature.

Key attributes we seek in our customer service team:

  • friendly, positive nature
  • good people skills
  • ability to work as part of a team
  • ability to understand and follow rules and directions

Knowledge of railways and Victorian railway history would also be handy, but is by no means essential.

It's very easy to get to the Museum; we are located within 200 metres of North Williamstown railway station and close to stops on the 415 and 472 bus routes. If you prefer to drive, we're only a few minutes from the Williamstown Rd exit of the Westgate Freeway and there there is ample on-street parking right out the front of the Museum.

A current Working With Children card is required for all Museum volunteers. We are happy to assist prospective volunteers in applying for their WWC card.
