The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Uniting AgeWell - Hawthorn.

The Uniting AgeWell - Hawthorn Men’s Shed is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support people of various capabilities to learn and engage in basic woodwork, carpentry and other activities.

Be responsible for running a 3 hour session once or twice a week at the Hawthorn Men’s Shed.

While in the shed you’ll help people with their own projects or come up with projects which others can also be involved in.

You’ll be responsible for encouraging shed users to act safely and respectfully ensure that equipment is used in the correct and responsible manner.

People of all ages and abilities come along to the Hawthorn Men’s Shed. As a volunteer we will look to you to help people enjoy their time with us. Whether that is by lending them a hand on a project or just by chatting with them over a cuppa.

You’ll be supported by a staff member or second volunteer at all times and as a key member of our team we will look to you for input and advice about how we can continue working to make our shed better and brighter for everyone uses it. This role is ideally suitable to anyone with skills in woodworking, cabinet making or carpentry, although anyone with mechanical or generally practical skills will also be warmly welcomed.

Applicants should have a commitment to and basic knowledge of workshop Occupational Health and Safety and/or safe operation of woodwork machinery.

Individuals who haveexperience working with people of different needs or supervision of small groups are also encouraged to apply.

We would also love to hear from volunteers who would like to get other programs started which would be suitable for a Men’s Shed but might not particularly entail woodworking or working with one’s hands.
