Who are we?

Edmund Rice Community & Refugee Services (ERCRS) is dedicated to developing the social, academic and personal skills of disengaged youth of refugee or disadvantaged backgrounds.

We are looking for active, engaging, and encouraging volunteers who can relate to teenagers and support running our sports mentoring program for young men in high school with a refugee background. While the program is focused on males, mentors of any gender are encouraged to apply.

What is the program?

Brighter Tomorrow Boys Group (BTBG) is a weekly soccer clinic with Melbourne Victory running from 3:00 - 5:30 pm every Thursday afternoon in St Albans during the school term. We play soccer, we eat pizza, we do indoor activities, and we go on occasional excursions. The young people involved are also encouraged to suggest additional activities they are interested in. The program aims to develop skills such as leadership, confidence, self-worth, and self-esteem while maintaining engagement in education and building positive relationships with mentors.

What do you need to do?

  • Positively engage with the young people in the program
  • (Ideally) Engage in participating and supporting soccer activities
  • Support young people through positive reinforcement and encouragement
  • Support facilitator and coach to run the program
  • Time management and commitment to the program
