Volunteer resident support- Dementia Care

Eldercare are looking for caring individuals to spend time and engage with residents living with Dementia. The aim of this role is to increase the social interaction of our residents experiencing dementia and to engage them in a variety of activities.

This role offers some variety in terms of activities - visiting residents 1:1, facilitating cooking or sensory activities with residents, assisting in a knitting group, reading to residents or engaging residents in art and craft activities.

We are looking for volunteers who can help on any day. Times can be discussed with the facilities Well being Consultant. Various resources to assist in your volunteer role will be provided.

Training

Annual Volunteer Training is offered as well as any training specific to volunteer role.

Time required

Throughout the week, times can be based on volunteers availability. Best practice volunteer involvement recommends that a volunteer role be a maximum of 15-16 hours per week.

Requirements

National Police Certificate

To be successful in this volunteer position, you need to have:• ~A pleasant, patient and gentle nature with good communication and listening skills• ~An Understanding or professional or personal experience of being with people living with dementia• Ability to take direction and work with staff supervision• ~Ability to interact positively & patiently with residents ;living with dementia, staff & families.• ~Ability to maintain & respect confidentiality Patience, sense of humor, understanding of the various forms of dementia and effective ways of communicating with residents, interest/skills in arts and crafts, cooking, and /or reading to individuals or small groups. Some previous experience would be an advantage however, if you have an interest in assisting residents with this illness we will offer all support and training required.
