Are you and your fur baby looking to be part of a supportive, highly energetic and playful team?

We are always in need of fun-loving volunteers. We take our highly trained visitation dogs to many vulnerable individuals in the Greater Western Sydney region, including in hospitals, aged care facilities, schools, universities, corporate environments, and to individuals in the community with physical and intellectual impairments or emotional stress. We are also active in community events such as festivals and fairs, and often fundraise at local shopping centres and Bunnings BBQs.

We support volunteers by providing free training to you and your dog, listening to you, giving you choice in where you volunteer; ensuring you (and your dog) are safe in the field, and making sure costs are reduced for our volunteers.

We always have a need for new volunteers. The best volunteers are playful, easy to laugh, emotionally intelligent and love dogs. It’s very important that a volunteer is dependable as people will rely on you to bring cheer and routine into their lives. Dogs with their handlers must be able to pass an assessment, comprised of role-playing and obedience.

We accept dogs between the ages of 12 months and 9 years. The age, size and breed of dog will impact the amount of training needed. Larger dogs will require a higher level of training; while, older dogs may require a lesser degree of training.

What we are assessing: • The calmness of your dog • Your ability to work with the dog • Separation anxiety • Communication skills • Cleanliness of dog • Your emotional and empathy awareness

A Working with Children check is required, and we may require a National Police Check.

Community demand is growing in Penrith, Hawkesbury, Blacktown, The Hills and The Blue Mountains.

Our training and administration centre is based in Penrith, initial orientation and training starts at Penrith. We aim to post you in a facility as close to your home as possible.

To apply, please visit the volunteer webpage on our website (google Nepean Therapy Dogs) and complete the application form.

We look forward to hearing from you!!
