Homework Support Group - Volunteer Tutor needed!- may suit university students

The Homework Support Group aims to provide participants with a supportive environment to enhance academic achievement amongst primary and secondary students from refugee backgrounds. Our volunteers support the students (from years 1 to 9) with various subjects such as, but not limited to, Maths, Science and English. The program aims to assist students to help them remain engaged in school and to pursue academic aspirations.

Key Responsibilities • Encouraging and supporting students with their academic studies, completing homework taks, assignments and revision • Providing social support including mentoring and positive role modelling • Encouraging participants to form social connections with others in the group • Communicating information with enthusiasm, clarity and patience • Ensuring safe and appropriate use of the facilities and equipment • Follow confidentiality and workplace safety protocols at all times • Observe the progress of participants and provide assistance as required • Liaise with the Program Coordinator and advise on program developments or requirements, and promptly report on any concerns

Skills, Experience and Attributes • Ability to assist students with homework in various subjects (ie: Maths, Science and English) • Ability to relate to students in a friendly, positive and professional manner • Experience in assisting and/or working with children at secondary levels • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate cross-culturally • Be patient, flexible and reliable. • Able to commit to the program for at least one school semester.
