Adult volunteers to mentor English as an Additional Language students.

Farnham Street Neighbourhood Learning Centre

Most of our English as an Additional Language students do not have access to the wider community. They lack confidence to engage with native English speakers and rarely have the opportunity to speak English outside the classroom. To help develop their confidence and encourage them to extend themselves, we have a mentoring program whereby students are paired with an English speaking tutor/mentor for one hour a week.

As most of our students are over the age of 35 we would like our volunteers to be a bit older too. No experience is necessary, just wanting to help is enough.

You would not be expected to actually teach your student, but you can if you and the student are agreeable. The relationship with the student is what is most important.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
