Community Visitors are the eyes and ears of the community and perform an important role of upholding the human rights of people with a cognitive disability and/or mental illness who are living in supported care.

They monitor and report on the adequacy of services being provided to residents/patients. Community Visitors also talk to residents/patients to identify issues of concern and write a brief report at the conclusion of the visit.

Community Visitors visit in pairs and visit facilities within their region.  Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills are required. The ability to contribute to a visit report is also required. This role is ideally suited to individuals who are available during day-time hours or late afternoons.

Access to your own transport to get to visits is required.

Training for this role is provided.

This is a challenging and rewarding role which is a formal Victorian Governor-in-Council appointment. A minimum 2 year commitment to this role is required. (Breaks/holidays/leave can be taken during this period.) Please note that due to the long-term nature of this role, this role is generally not suitable for students wanting to gain experience in the sector.
