Aged Care Volunteer Visitor
The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) at Riverina Community College is seeking caring individuals who can spend time with an older person, whether in an aged care facility or in their own home. Your visits will lift someone’s spirits by sharing moments of laughter and offer a meaningful companionship to an older person who may be experiencing loneliness or isolation.
The ACVVS is an Australian Government funded program that has improved the wellbeing and social connection of older people, while also giving a volunteer visitor the rewarding experience of knowing they are making a positive difference in someone’s life. What can you do as a Volunteer Visitor?
- Share stories
- Have a cuppa and a chat
- Read or listen to a book
- Enjoy a TV show or movie together
- Go for a walk
- Play cards or board games
- Knit or crochet together
How will we help you? We will match you to an older person who has similar interests or background, and all it takes is half an hour a week or one hour a fortnight of your time for a visit to brighten the day of a vulnerable older person.
Before being matched with your new older friend, you will be required to attend an interview, pass a National Police Check (we cover the cost of this), provide volunteer training and support the meaningful relationship you build with the older person you visit.
Sounds like something you would enjoy doing? Come join our growing group of friendly volunteers by contacting us at acvvs@riverinacc.edu.au or by calling Riverina Community College on 1800 000 212.
