Volunteer Social Worker, Student Placement Supervisor

Provide structured, formal supervision sessions (individual or small‑group) for students throughout their placement. Work with the student (and, where relevant, the university liaison) to develop a clear learning plan — specifying tasks and learning objectives appropriate to the student’s educational level and placement requirements. Assign and oversee appropriate placement tasks — including client contact (where appropriate), case‑management, assessments, notes and referrals — while ensuring student tasks remain ethical, manageable and aligned with learning goals. Translate theory into practice by mentoring students through discussions of social‑work theory, frameworks, ethics and intervention strategies; support them to reflect on their experiences and decisions. Provide regular, constructive feedback on the student’s case work, professional behaviour and development — helping them grow professionally and ethically. Collaborate with university liaison / placement coordinators: attend progress reviews (mid and end of placement), complete assessment or evaluation forms as required, report any concerns or risks, and liaise around any changes that may affect the placement. Maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive work environment that respects confidentiality, cultural diversity, client dignity, and professional standards — creating a positive mentoring and learning space for students.
