Make-A-Wish - Volunteer Communications Coordinator - Western Sydney

Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We work with these kids and their families to grant unforgettable wishes – like making unicorns fly, sending kids to the moon to and even helping Australia's youngest ever cricket captain don the baggy green!
The friendly team at the Western Sydney Branch are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join Make-A-Wish as a volunteer Communications Coordinator.
As the volunteer Communications Coordinator, your focus will be to oversee the branch’s community engagement and promotion of Make-A-Wish through local media, community social media and events. You will achieve this by:
- Promoting local and national Make-A-Wish activities and events.
- Overseeing the use of the branch Facebook page, ensuring content is updated regularly and is in line with Make-A-Wish Australia guidelines.
- Raising awareness by being an ambassador for Make-A-Wish.
In addition to the above responsibilities of the volunteer Communications Coordinator, you’ll also be part of the volunteer team helping children who are fighting serious illnesses by:
- Attending your branch meetings on a weekday evening once a month.
- Helping local wish families by capturing their child’s unique wish and bringing it to life through different stages of the Wish Journey.
- Supporting fundraising and events, from trivia nights and sausage sizzles to gala balls and bake-offs. Please note that events vary by branch location.
Before applying, please consider the key requirements of a volunteer:
- Must be 18 years of age or over.
- Commit to at least 12 months as a volunteer to ensure consistency for wish children and their families.
- Complete a comprehensive background check, including interview, reference checks, a Working with Children Check (or equivalent for your State/Territory) and a National Background Check.
- Complete comprehensive online induction training within the first 6 weeks, so at least a basic level of technical skill is required, plus access to a personal email and a suitable device, such as a laptop.
- Attend branch meetings on a weekday evening once a month.
- Have access to reliable transport to attend meetings, wishes and fundraising events.
