About the role The Work Health and Safety (WHS) Lead plays a crucial role in building and sustaining a strong culture of safety and mental wellbeing for MYND volunteers. This volunteer position is ideal for a self-motivated individual passionate about both WHS and mental health. You will lead efforts to manage physical and psychosocial risks both within the MYND virtual workplace and at organised public events, ensuring MYND complies with WHS legislation across Australia and fosters a psychologically safe environment. As part of this role, you will guide, train, and support volunteers, helping embed WHS best practices, including mental health awareness, throughout the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain WHS management systems that address physical safety and psychosocial hazards, including mental health risks
  • Ensure compliance with national and state WHS legislation, with a strong focus on psychosocial risk management
  • Promote mental health awareness and psychological safety among volunteers and Team Leaders by integrating WHS practices that support wellbeing
  • Manage incident reporting, risk assessments, and emergency preparedness with attention to both physical and mental health impacts
  • Provide training, mentorship, and guidance to volunteers and Team Leaders on WHS and mental health topics
  • Collaborate with leadership and volunteers to continuously improve WHS initiatives and mental wellbeing programs
  • Communicate effectively to foster engagement and understanding on WHS and mental health issues

About You

  • Significant experience in Work Health and Safety, including understanding and managing psychosocial risks and mental health in the workplace
  • Passionate advocate for mental health and wellbeing within WHS frameworks
  • Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) to educate and influence volunteers and leaders
  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Proven ability to guide, train, and mentor volunteers or team members
  • Committed to volunteering 4–5 hours per week to support MYND’s mission
