About the opportunity

Primary Purpose of the Position

Bairnsdale Community Village Incorporated is a newly established not-for-profit in East Gippsland dedicated to fostering social connection, health, and wellbeing—particularly for older residents at risk of isolation. As an inclusive community hub, the Village delivers social, recreational, educational, and health-focused programs that respond to local needs. Following its transition to incorporated status, the organisation is entering an exciting growth phase focused on strategic development, partnerships, and securing sustainable facilities to expand its community impact. With compliance and establishment tasks now complete, the organisation is preparing to shift its focus toward strategic planning for growth and expanded community services. The objective of this Assignment is to design and support the development of a Strategic Business Plan for Bairnsdale Community Village Incorporated. This plan will guide the organisation’s priorities over the next 3-5 years, addressing vision, service delivery, financial sustainability, governance, stakeholder engagement, and risk management to ensure continued success and sustainable operations.

The deliverables of this Assignment are to lead or facilitate the creation of a Strategic Business Plan, comprising:

• Vision, mission, and values statement

• Identification of core services and alignment with community needs

• Sustainable funding, revenue, and business model options

• Governance framework review and board capability development

• Stakeholder and partnership engagement strategy

• Operational planning, including milestones, timelines, and evaluation measures

• Risk management and compliance planning

• Advise on grant readiness and prepare/support priority funding applications

• Develop recommendations for succession planning, volunteer engagement, and organisational growth

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

• Demonstrated success in developing strategic plans for not-for-profit/community organisations

• Strong knowledge of governance and compliance for incorporated associations

• Ability to lead inclusive planning and engage a wide range of stakeholders

• Expertise in funding/grants strategy, business models, and risk management

• Excellent communication skills—verbal and written—with an ability to translate strategic concepts into actionable plans.

Desirable:

• Experience in regional community development

• Understanding of older persons’ services, aged care, or community health sector

• Board or committee training and development expertise

  • 5 years professional experience in the relevant field
  • Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident residing in Australia. Australian Citizens residing overseas may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Willingness to complete a National Police Check
  • Willingness to complete a Working with Children Check
