About Scouts Victoria – Kingston District
Scouts Victoria – Kingston District manages Scouting operations within the Kingston City Council area in Melbourne’s South-East. The district currently supports over 400 youth and adult members, with a strong vision to continue growing in the coming years. Scouts Victoria empowers young people to develop resilience, leadership, and community spirit through adventure, service, and personal growth. Kingston District plays a vital role in supporting local Scout Groups by providing governance, administrative oversight, training, and community partnerships, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of Scouting programs for young people across the region.
Key Duties
As a member of the Kingston District Committee, you will play a vital role in supporting the governance, planning, and success of Scouting across the district. Working collaboratively with other committee members, you will: Attend monthly meetings (and the Annual Reports and Presentations celebration) to oversee district operations and ensure good governance. Support the implementation of district priorities and compliance with Scouts Victoria’s policies and Child Safe Standards.
Undertake role-specific responsibilities:

Chairperson: Lead meetings, set agendas, and provide direction to ensure decisions are actioned.

Secretary: Manage agendas, minutes, and communications between the committee, District Commissioner, and local Groups.

Treasurer: Maintain financial records, manage budgets, oversee fundraising and ensure transparent financial reporting.

General Committee Members (multiple portfolios): Support specific portfolios such as community engagement, property, communications, fundraising or events.
Each role will collaborate closely with the District Commissioner, to whom these positions report, ensuring the committee’s work aligns with the district’s vision and strategy.
Skills and Experience
We are seeking individuals with professional or volunteer experience in areas such as administration, finance, governance, education, or community development. Previous Scouting experience is not required — just a willingness to contribute your skills to a positive community organisation. Ideal candidates will have:
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- An understanding of governance, planning, or organisational management.
- A proactive attitude and reliability in following through with agreed actions.
- A current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one) and ability to undergo a police clearance.
