Friendly Volunteer Visitors Needed at Parkinson QLD ✨

Queensland Community Care Network

Make a Meaningful Connection! At QCCN, we believe everyone deserves companionship, especially our elderly residents in aged care homes. We’re seeking volunteers who are ready to make a real difference by providing friendship to seniors who feel isolated.

We have many residents in a care home in Parkinson who are without any family or friends who visit them. Male and female residents across all ages are looking for a new friend who can volunteer their time for a social visit. Volunteer Visitors enrich the lives of our elders in care and help bring them a sense of connection from their local community. Studies have proven that loneliness can be just as detrimental to our health as smoking - and sadly, over 40% of people in aged care don't have anyone to visit them at all. You can make a difference by visiting your new friend once a fortnight - all you have to do is be a mate!

Why Volunteer?

  • Just an hour of your time every fortnight can brighten someone’s world.
  • You’ll be matched one-on-one with a resident who’s socially isolated or at risk of becoming so.
  • Enjoy a chat, share a coffee, or play a game—simple moments that can create lasting friendships.

Who We’re Looking For: We need volunteers who are patient, understanding, and experienced in communicating with the elderly. Your compassion can truly transform someone’s day.

What to Expect:

  • Flexible visiting times—weekday Mornings, Afternoons or Weekends
  • This role is perfect for those who want to give back but isn’t designed for those seeking clinical or job-related experience.

Why Join QCCN?

  • You’ll be part of a dedicated team working to combat loneliness among the elderly.
  • Our supportive staff will be with you every step of the way, ensuring a rewarding and fulfilling volunteer experience.

The visits would take place on weekdays or weekends, please note orientation will need to take place during Monday to Friday Business hours.

Volunteer requirements are -

  • To be aged over 18 years
  • The passing of the National Criminal History Check (which we perform and pay for - you won't need to supply this!)
  • A 2024 flu vaccination, with evidence available to present to the aged care home.
  • This home also requires a total of 2 COVID vaccinations.
  • The availability to visit your new friend once a fortnight for the next twelve months. Of course, we understand holidays/study/work comes up, and that's totally fine - the regularity of your visits will also assist your resident to feel a sense of connection and to help grow your friendship even further.

This volunteer role is not suitable for those looking to gain experience within the health sector in regards to job placement/meeting study requirements. As this role offers no direct clinical exposure, it does not qualify as work or practical experience.

QCCN are excited to invite applications from volunteers who fit the criteria for this placement. This care home has wonderful supportive staff who will assist you to make sure your volunteer journey is a successful and enjoyable experience. They will be with you throughout the process for support and guidance.

Please note that during flu season (typically April - October), all visitors to aged care facilities in Australia (including staff, family and volunteers) must have a Flu Vaccination with evidence to be provided to aged care facility upon each visit.

We’re a small not for profit aiming to do big things! It’s our goal to try to eliminate the elderly feeling secluded whilst in residential care. To do this, we connect volunteers with the elderly so they can develop long lasting, meaningful friendships. We'd love to have you join our team if this is the kind of role you are looking for within the community!
